I've been busy making molds of all my tile designs this winter. Every Friday night you can find me at Core Clay steadily cranking out the molds of both new and older tiles. I've managed to save all my tiles after casting them, leaving me with a nice selection of only slightly damaged/plaster ridden tiles to experiment with. So, for the first time in what seems like forever, I'm playing around with some new surface treatments, slips and glazes.
Inspired by the artwork of Molly Hatch, I am trying out some slip inlay using a process called mishima. I'm using colored slips, underglazes, and regular glazes and having a ridiculously good time.
We'll have to see how the firing goes, but I'm loving the line quality made by the mishima process.
I'm pretty excited to have extra tiles that I can actually play around with. Now I have to decide: glossy or not glossy? Or both? Oh, the possibilities...
